This toolkit has been designed to support anyone planning to evaluate Electronic Information Services (EIS) in UK Higher Education Institutions.
It can provide help with evaluation to:
- inform the organisation and strategic planning of EIS
- assist with the day-to-day management of EIS
- solve problems and investigate uses and impact of EIS
- develop and improve services
- justify external funding.
If you have limited experience of evaluation or are new to the evalued toolkit, you should look at the How to Evaluate EIS section. This outlines a step-by-step process which you can follow through or use to look for advice on specific activities such as data collection and analysis.
If want to know more about the main issues you might want to consider when planning an evaluation and why these are important to libraries and the HE sector generally, background information is provided under EIS Evaluation Themes. This section also contains advice on key considerations, methods to use and general tips on making effective use of your findings for each theme.
If you are looking for straightforward, time-saving approaches, we recommend you use the Evaluation Tools section. This contains a variety of pre-designed standard questionnaires and other tools arranged by theme. There is also detailed advice on data analysis for specific tools.
It want a tailor-made approach, the Custom Tools option allows you to mix and match themes by selecting from a question bank to create customised surveys for students, library staff or academic staff.
The Site Resources section has a range of case studies and other examples of evaluation activities.
